QuickBooks Online’s August 2026 Price Increase: What It Costs You and What To Do

Quick answer: For renewals on or after August 1, 2026, QuickBooks Online Plus rose from $99 to $140/month (+41%) and Advanced from $200 to $340/month (+70%); Essentials is now $85/month. Simple Start, Ledger, Lite, and Free are unchanged. Advanced now bundles Bill Pay Elite and industry tools, which offsets the increase only if you were paying for those separately.

The new QuickBooks Online prices

For subscriptions renewing on or after August 1, 2026, Intuit’s list prices are:

PlanBefore Aug 2026NowNew yearly cost
Simple Start$38/mo$38/mo — unchanged$456
Essentials$85/mo$1,020
Plus$99/mo$140/mo (+41%)$1,680
Advanced$200/mo$340/mo (+70%)$4,080

Pricing for QuickBooks Free, Lite, Ledger, and Simple Start did not change. Promotional pricing is honored through the promotion; newer subscribers keep their old price through their sixth invoice. Verified against Intuit’s live pricing page and official announcement, August 2026.

The honest part: Advanced got real value bundled in

Before you rage-quit, do the offset math. Intuit folded Bill Pay Elite (previously about $540/year as an add-on) and industry-specific tooling for construction and professional services into Advanced, plus an expanded reporting and analytics suite. If you were already paying separately for those add-ons, your net increase may be small. If you never used them, you’re paying roughly $1,680 more per year for capability you may not touch.

Plus subscribers get the worst of it: +$41/month (about $492/year) with far less bundled offset.

What to do about it

  • Check your tier before your renewal date. Plan creep is real — many businesses sit on Plus for inventory tracking they stopped using, or on Advanced for one seasonal feature. Simple Start didn’t change price.
  • Don’t downgrade blind. Dropping a tier can silently remove class tracking, projects, or budgets your month-end close depends on. Map what you actually use first — we do this review as part of any engagement.
  • Price the alternatives with real numbers. Xero raises US prices October 1, 2026 (details here), so “just switch to Xero” isn’t automatically cheaper either. Our cost calculator projects your 3-year spend across options using verified current prices.
  • If you’re on Advanced mainly for capacity (large lists, heavy transactions), QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise is often the better-value home — that’s a conversion we do fixed-fee. See when switching actually makes sense — and when it doesn’t.

Common questions

When does the QuickBooks Online price increase take effect?

For renewals on or after August 1, 2026. Your exact date depends on your billing cycle; promotional pricing runs its course first, and subscribers in their first six months keep their old price until the seventh invoice.

Did QuickBooks Simple Start go up in price?

No. Intuit's announcement states pricing for QuickBooks Free, Lite, Ledger, and Simple Start remains unchanged in the August 2026 update.

Is QuickBooks Online Advanced worth $340 a month now?

It depends on offsets. Advanced now bundles Bill Pay Elite and industry tooling that previously cost extra. If you used those add-ons, the net increase is modest; if not, compare against QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise or a lower QBO tier before renewing.

Should I switch away from QuickBooks Online because of the price increase?

Not reflexively. Xero raises US prices October 1, 2026 too, and switching has its own cost. Switch when the platform no longer fits - capacity, features, workflow - not over price alone. We'll tell you honestly which applies to you.
